Welcome to our Family Medicine Residency Program in Pittsburgh!
At our program, we are proud to uphold the values and traditions of osteopathic medicine while preparing residents for the future of family-centered care. Our faculty—many of whom are dedicated osteopathic physicians—bring a wealth of clinical experience, a passion for teaching, and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of family doctors.
UPMC Saint Margaret's has been training osteopathic residents as far back as 2002 when we entered into a dually accredited program with the AOA. Since 2020 it was important for us to apply for and achieve Osteopathic Recognition in affiliation with the ACGME. Since its inception our program has strived to meet all of the standards and academic requirements to achieve an outstanding osteopathic education. We are proud that our educational curriculum trains both osteopathic and allopathic residents with a shared curriculum. We think it is vital to share the benefits of osteopathic principles and practice with our colleagues and faculty here!!
We believe in training residents to care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—while also equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. You will receive hands-on training in diverse clinical settings across Pittsburgh, with opportunities to practice full-spectrum family medicine, including osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), preventive care, chronic disease management, and community health.
As a resident in our program, you will benefit from:
- Personalized mentorship from faculty who are passionate about osteopathic principles and family medicine.
- Robust OMT training integrated throughout your residency experience.
- A supportive, collegial environment where teamwork and resident wellness are prioritized.
- Community-focused learning that prepares you to make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and families.
Pittsburgh is a vibrant city that combines the warmth of a close-knit community with the resources of world-class healthcare institutions. It’s an ideal place to live, learn, and grow as a physician.
We invite you to explore what makes our program unique and hope you will consider joining us as we continue to build a tradition of excellence in osteopathic family medicine.
