John Chancellor, MD

  • First Year

I grew up picking wild blackberries with my mother in the red clay of Enterprise, Alabama, and remained in the "Sweet Home" state until I completed my undergrad degree in Neuroscience from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Go Blazers!

A wanderlust at heart, I spent the next two years in the Peace Corps where I taught 8th and 9th grade English and Biology in Mozambique. While abroad, I mentored several youth groups, gave healthy living talks for people living with HIV, and taught at a community library. This experience ultimately solidified my desire to be a doctor.

Upon my return to the U.S., I completed medical school at Emory University School of Medicine, and was drawn to both primary mental and physical health. I am so excited to continue my training in the combined Family Medicine/Psychiatry program here at UPMC St. Margaret, ultimately aiming to practice at the intersection of mental health and rural health, both at home and abroad, with an emphasis on providing comprehensive queer health in those spaces.

When I'm not in the hospital, you’ll find me hiking, camping, kayaking, dancing, playing soccer or volleyball, or discussing the drama on the latest reality T.V. show.
