Karen M Moyer MD

  • Director, Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship
  • Director, Family Medicine Obstetrics

Dr. Moyer received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavior from Mount Holyoke College in 1996. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2001 and completed her residency in Family Medicine at UPMC St. Margaret in 2004. She then spent a year in a Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose, California where she was trained in operative and high-risk obstetrics.

After her fellowship, she returned to Pittsburgh and worked for the Department of Family Medicine for 4 years doing full-scope family practice, including operative obstetrics, and teaching medical students and residents. In 2009 she became the Assistant Director of Family Medicine Obstetrics for UPMC St. Margaret, and since 2013 has been the Director of FM Obstetrics for St. Margaret. She was the first family practitioner at Magee to have operative obstetric privileges at Magee and is very excited to now be working with Dr. Flaherty and Rhem as colleagues.  As of this year, she also took on the role of Associate program director for St. Margaret and is looking forward to that as a new endeavor.

Professionally, she has interests in women's health, obstetrics, and procedures in family medicine. Personally, when she's not working or on call, she enjoys spending time with her son Drew, daughter Sydney, and husband Brian. She also enjoys being outdoors hiking, biking, kayaking, and especially riding her off-the-track thoroughbred RV.
