Lindsay Nakaishi, MD, MPH, DipABLM

Dr. Nakaishi obtained her Bachelor of Science at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. She then obtained her Master’s in Public Health at West Virginia University School of Public Health in her hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia. Her research and public health work prior to medical school focused on eliminating health disparities in specific vulnerable populations. She attended West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed her residency at UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency and served as Co-Chief. During her residency, she participated in the Global Health Track where she implemented the Community Oriented Primary Care Model to develop a sustainable intervention to address depression in rural Honduras. After residency, she joined UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine as a full-time faculty and led the program’s Teams for well-being, Human Sexuality and Gender Affirming Care, Patient Safety, Addiction Medicine, and Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. She completed Fellowship Training in the UPMC St. Margaret’s Faculty Development Fellowship in Pittsburgh, PA in 2020. 

Her academic interests include Social Justice and Health Equity including Gender Affirming Care, Lifestyle Medicine, Physician well-being, and Motivational Interviewing.  Outside of medicine, Dr. Nakaishi loves exploring the world with her husband, Alex, and her greatest accomplishment, her son, Curtis. She enjoys exercising, trying new plant-based recipes, spending time with family and friends, painting, singing (in the car, when only her son is listening), and nearly all things cat-related.
