Jonathan Han, MD

Dr. Han was born in Kentucky to Korean immigrant parents and grew up in Ohio. He completed his undergraduate work at Kenyon College and received his doctorate of medicine degree from Northwestern University. He completed his internship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and his residency at UCSF/ San Francisco General Hospital. Training during the height of the AIDS epidemic, Dr. Han became passionate about caring for the medically underserved, with a deep appreciation for the impact of how social movements improve health care. Dr. Han then spent seven years practicing in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Boston and advocating for community health through teaching and volunteerism.

In 2001, Dr. Han came to UPMC St. Margaret to serve as Medical Director at UPMC New Kensington Family Health Center.  He is especially interested in integrated behavioral health, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), social justice and advocacy, and narrative medicine. Dr. Han collaborated with the late Joel Merenstein MD and Jennifer Middleton MD on a book, The Human Side of Medicine, that celebrates the diverse challenges and rewards of a career in family medicine.  In his free time, Dr. Han enjoys reading, writing, listening to all kinds of music, and spending time with his wife Marilyn, and grown children David and Grace.
