The Family Medicine Residency Program at UPMC St. Margaret was established in 1971 – one of the first in the country. At the heart of the program is a community hospital run by Family Medicine residents. However, academics are not compromised. Three plus hours of lecture and conference time are provided daily. The active involvement of medical students from various universities, a strong tie with the University of Pittsburgh, the coexistence of a unique and highly successful Family Medicine Fellowship and fellowships in Geriatrics and Sports Medicine all serve to enhance residency training.
The Family Medicine Residency teaching staff espouses the goal of providing superior education in a pleasant, personally supportive environment. The hospital’s large cadre of Family Practitioners in private practice is the most widely respected group on the UPMC St. Margaret medical staff and, hence, provides superb role models to emulate. On top of that, our location in Pittsburgh offers everyone a dynamic, culturally rich city in which to live.
