bullet point  Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship

The Faculty Development Fellowship Program began in 1982 at UPMC St. Margaret and is now an integral part of the Department. Supported by UPMC St. Margaret, together with Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) federal grant support since 1992, the program has graduated over 50 fellows, more than any other full-time fellowship in the country.

The objectives of the Clinical Researcher Fellowship reflect the mission within the Department of Family Medicine and the expertise of the faculty: reducing disparities in clinical delivery and improving quality and access to health care for patients in primary care community-based settings. Fellows will benefit from the supportive research environment within the Center for Primary Care Community-Based Research housed in the Department of Family Medicine, including multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research teams and a well-developed infrastructure. Clinical Researcher Fellows will receive comprehensive training in the methodology of community-based research through coursework for a Masters of Public Health or Masters of Clinical Research degree as well as complete a mentored research project.

    bullet point  Sports Medicine Fellowship

The UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program provides an excellent environment for a superior learning experience in Primary Care Sports Medicine. Pittsburgh is known for its sports teams at the high school, college and professional levels. Fellows in the program care for athletes at the Division I University of Pittsburgh teams, Duquesne University, St. Vincent College, Carnegie Mellon University and have opportunities to participate in other national and local sports medicine events. Access to these teams allows the UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program to offer the most diverse clinical experience available in the field.

In addition to well-rounded sports medicine exposure, the UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship offers excellent academic teaching and a superior clinical experience in orthopedic medicine, continuity clinics, sports medicine office hours, injury clinics, specialty lectures, and weekly didactic and grand round sessions.

Under the direction of Dr. Anne Boyd, the St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship offers opportunities to participate in extreme sporting events such as the NBC Dew Action Sports Tour. Dr. Boyd is a nationally recognized speaker in Sports Medicine, has published several sports medicine articles and textbook contributions and has been on the medical staff of the Ironman Triathlon, World BMX Tour, X Games, Dew Games, and has been voted ‘Top Doc’ in Pittsburgh in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine consecutively for the last several years.

Finally, fellows in the UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Fellowship Program grow to function as learners and as teachers as they steadily improve their skills and comfort to teach medical students and residents and participate in sports medicine conferences. The UPMC St. Margaret Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship provides an incredible learning opportunity and diverse clinical exposure in a city that you will find not only affordable and friendly, but surprisingly beautiful and rich with experiences.
